You can make some very simple and cheap Christmas ornaments using things that are found in the house, such as placemats. Placemats are an innovative way of making Christmas decorations that are good looking and provide lots of fun for the kids. There are a few innovations of Christmas ornaments that you can consider making from placemats and these are; Christmas Garlands, Quilts, stockings, candle votives and other ornaments.

Christmas Decorations Made from Placemats

Christmas Garland
to create this ornament you will need to cut your placemats into strips of that are about three 7 cm wide and 15 cm long. The next step is to fold the strips into circles sew their ends and turn them inside out and then put the other strips to hook the rings and you have made a garland.

Christmas Quilt
cut the placemats into squares that are about15 cm. Mix a variety of colors to add some beauty and then cut out letters to spell Christmas together with bells, angels, and other Christmas images that you will put onto a Christmas tree.

Christmas Stockings
Fold a placemat in half and draw the shape of a stocking on each half and cut them out, fold and hem them. The next step is to sew the stockings together and do not sew the top leave it open. Turn them inside out and you have made Christmas stockings.

Christmas Candle Votives
You can first make your placemats attractive by spray painting them and then wrapping them around glasses and then putting some candles inside the glasses.
