Christmas in Alabama Christmas in Alabama, just like in any other state in America, can only be considered incomplete without the traditional Christmas symbols like Santa Claus, Christmas trees, and gift-giving. During this time of year, family and friends gather to savor the Yuletide spirit. Yet Alabama’s Christmas is special since this was the first state to put legal recognition on this occasion, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.

One of the leading attractions in Alabama is their Christmas on the River of the Demopolis. As always, the love trees will be decorated with beautiful and bright lights to illuminate the nightsky. This year’s theme includes arts and crafts show, a parade in celebration of the Children’s Day and an amusing fireworks exhibition. This event celebrated yearly atrracts thousand of Americans from other state as well tourists from other countries.

Caroling, of course, is also included in their Christmas activities list. Carolers wearing thick jackets and sweaters and carrying tambourines and drums sing their Christmas hymns on doorstep of each home in exchange of gifts and season’s greetings.

Poinsettia is the National Christmas flower. In most home ornaments, this beautiful flower can be seen, as well as in building and street decorations. Christmas trees normally contain Poinsettia too, apart from the Christmas balls, big red socks, sugar canes, and gifts.

Gift-giving is normal in Alabama during the Christmas season. Family members gather around the Christmas trees and wait for the Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve, the gift wrappers will be torn in front of the tree. Words of thanks will then be said to the giver.

During the Eve, the whole State will be covered by the nightsky and the glow coming from the Christmas lights of each household. After all foods were eaten and gifts opened, the whole state will then be sleeping to their deepest sleep, knowing that they already have satisfied not only their stomachs but their souls.
